Yes you read it correctly: the Dondra boats are built with epoxy and infused under vacuum.
Epoxy is not only much better, it is also much stronger than polyester or vinylester.
During the infusion, the epoxy resin penetrates the glass evenly and completely, under vacuum pressure.
Result: a strong epoxy boat, which, moreover, does not have to carry an unnecessary (resin) weight.
We also use only directional non-shrinking glass. These are glass fibers that run straight and are not woven.
The forces come on a laminate (glass and resin) that cannot stretch in any way. (Woven glass stretches even if it is embedded in a resin.)
An analysis is made in advance where additional force load will be added on a boatpiece. At those places, extra directional glass is added in the direction in which there is force load.
The infusion system, whereby all glass is laid dry beforehand, allows the glass laying to be adjusted to the force that will be exerted on that specific boat part.
By laying glass dry, it is not contaminated in any way and is perfectly tight, ready for the infusion.
