The cardan steering also allows us to position the rudders in such a way that they move with an Ackerman effect, just like the front wheels of a car.
If you take a turn – and on the catamaran it is a large turn – the radius of the outer circle is much larger than that of the inner circle.
That means that your rudders (with a car the wheels) must be in a different angle to steer perfectly. By applying the Ackerman effect, the rudders are automatically adjusted to the correct angle.
Once again a plus of the Dondra catamarans!
Our team is constantly looking to turn a good sailboat into an even better sailboat.
